NTU’s response to the current situation in Hong Kong (Updates on November 28, 2019)

In order to respond to the current situation in Hong Kong, National Taiwan University has taken the following measures:

  1. NTU exchange students in Hong Kong: Students have already been contacted and advised to return to Taiwan. NTU and its partner universities will work closely together to provide assistance in terms of students' academic affairs and additional support.
  1. Taiwanese and other nationality students at universities in Hong Kong: NTU supports students to enroll as special visiting students. The NTU Office of International Affairs has actively contacted universities in Hong Kong and students are encouraged to directly contact the Office of International Affairs for inquiry (email: intstudent@ntu.edu.tw).
  1. NTU is willing to assist our global partners to accept exchange students from our global partners originally headed for Hong Kong to enroll at NTU.

As part of the global academic community, NTU is committed to students' right for learning. We stand together with our global partners through this difficult time.

  1. Special Visiting Student Program is available only for Fall 2019 semester. Applicants need to complete the application form and submit necessary documents for review. Applicants will receive review results and registration instructions, including registration dates and other necessary information, via email. After registration, applicants may start their visit in NTU and audit courses without credits upon instructor’s approval. The visiting period will start in early December and end on January 3, 2020, the last day of class for Fall 2019 semester.
  1. Application deadline: 12pm (noon), November 25, 2019. 
    Late online application or late submission of the application documents will not be accepted or reviewed.
  2. Fees: Applicants will be charged TWD 600 upon registration for campus internet and student ID card. Tuition and other fees will be waived.
  3. Accommodation: Due to limited dormitory capacity, applicants from Taiwan will not be eligible for dormitory. Housing arrangement will be made for applicants of other nationalities who have requrested for accommodation upon online application. Applicants are responsible for their dormitory costs.
  4. Applicants who took leave from NTU are not eligible for the Special Visiting Student program. Applicants should apply for reinstatement directly.

  1. Taiwanese and other nationality students at universities in Hong Kong can also apply for Visiting Student Program for Spring 2020 semester, which will start on February 10 and end on June 19, 2020.
  1. Application deadline: 12pm (noon), November 29, 2019.
  2. Application documents:
  1. Passport size photo in digital format photograph
  2. Motivation letter / Study plan
  3. Transcript with academic records
  4. Photocopy of non-Taiwanese passport (For Taiwanese applicants, please submit the copy of R.O.C. ID card.)
  5. Declaration form
  6. Two letters of recommendation
  7. Financial statement
  8. Certificate of remittance for application fee
  1. Fees:
  1. Non-refundable application fee TWD 15,000 (approx. USD 500) must be paid by wire transfer before application deadline.
  2. Tuition fee (international-degree-student rate) varies by college and level of study and is paid by the registration day.
  1. This program is for students currently enrolled in universities in Hong Kong only. Students enrolled in universities outside of Hong Kong are not eligible.
  2. Due to limited dormitory capacity, applicants are not eligible for dormitory. Applicants are responsible for their own housing arrangement.
  3. Applicants who took leave from NTU are not eligible for the Special Visiting Student program. Applicants should apply for reinstatement directly.
  4. Applicants must submit all required application documents and pay the application fee before the deadline. The application without uploading the completed application documents or paying the application fee will not be accepted or reviewed.
  5. Course information and restrictions:
  1. The College of Medicine does not accept senior and graduate visiting students. Only basic medicine courses are open to visiting students; the practicum/internship courses (clinical medicine courses and medical research) are not open to visiting students.
  2. The Department of Anthropology is only open to students who are proficient in Chinese. The Department of Anthropology only offers courses in Chinese.
  3. All EMBA and EIMBA courses and GMBA required/core courses are not open to visiting students.
  4. According to NTU regulation, visiting students must take at least 2 courses or 4 credits per semester. Furthermore, students should also follow the requirements of their home universities.
  5. The course information for 2020 Spring semester is available in January, 2020. Before course information is announced, you may still refer to the Online Course Information website to search for courses offered in the past few years for your reference. For questions regarding a specific field/course, please contact the relevant department or the course instructor directly.

3. For Taiwanese students who want to transfer to NTU, please fill in the application form and apply directly to Ministry of Education.
