The Ministry of Education have announced the relaxing on Foreign academic Scholars /researchers (non-employment status) to visit in Taiwan. (Document No.1112502078) If you are interested in the program, kindly contact us via intlscholar@ntu.edu.tw for further information.
Visiting scholars are individuals whose primary purpose for residence on NTU campus is to conduct research and / or lectures. The applicant shall not possess a student identity when applying for the program. The length of stay for a visiting scholar is normally not more than one year. Visiting scholar positions are not compensated. Please refer to our Visiting Scholars' Services and Fee Paying Policy for more information.
A visiting scholar program is a fee-charge program
Since August 2014, every visiting scholar must be enrolled in the Visiting Scholars Program. It incurs a university fee based on the duration of your stay:

All visiting scholars are required to pay a one-time non-refundable university fee.
* Please note that visiting scholars are responsible for their own insurance, parking license, transportation from airport. We will also incure a payment of 150 NTD for reissuing your NTU ID card.
Since we are still working on our online application and paying system, please send in your application via email 30 days in advance. Once you have arrived in Taiwan, please come to our office to obtain the payment sheet. We will assist you to complete your payment either by cash or credit cards. Please note that we can only accept Visa, MasterCard, JCB, or American Express cards.
Visiting scholars are granted a variety of privileges, including access to your department building, the University’s Libraries, and gym. For more information please visit the International Visiting Scholar Benefits & Privileges.
Visiting scholar status does not guarantee assignment of an office or workspace. These must be negotiated with the host department or research institute.
Want to become a visiting scholar?
All visiting scholars must have a NTU host ( i.e., faculty member, Dean, Director, Department, Research institute ). First check our list of colleges and departments and find a match with your area of interest; then simply contact them. Once a prospective visitor and host have agreed on a period of appointment, the host or his/her representative will send you a formal invitation letter. To fully enroll yourself in the program, please apply via our online application system. ( please download our Visiting Scholars Program form and email your application to intlscholar@ntu.edu.tw )

Types of Scholar Programs
Visiting Scholars Program
Visiting Scholars are individuals whose primary purpose for residence on NTU campus is to conduct research and/or lecture. Visiting scholars should already have a NTU host and an official invitation letter from NTU’s respective college/department.
Taiwan Fellowship Program
The Taiwan Fellowship program was established in 2010 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to award foreign experts and scholars interested in researches related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, mainland China, Asia-Pacific region and Chinese studies to conduct advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan. Please apply via the Taiwan Fellowship website.

Faculty Exchange Program
NTU provides the following faculty exchange programs to encourage NTU faculty to engage in research and teaching cooperation with partner universities.
If you are interested in coming to NTU as an exchange scholar, please refer to our list of faculty exchange partners then contact your international office for nomination.
If you are a current NTU faculty, please refer to the following for the 2020 faculty exchange program information.
Eligibility
- Current NTU full-time faculty members who will pursue a joint project with their colleagues at the host departments or give lectures to students of host departments.
- NTU faculty members should have found a host faculty member at the host university upon application (an invitation or correspondence is required).

Friday, June 14, 2019 until 5pm, Friday, August 30, 2019
Application Procedure
- Applicants shall complete and submit the application form (for visiting period of equal to or less than one month or more than one month) and supporting documents, with the approval of the Department/College, to the Office of International Affairs (OIA). If applicant intends to apply for exchange period of more than one month, approval from the Personnel Department is also required.
- The OIA will then compile the application materials and send for the International Affairs Steering Committee's review. List of nominees will be announced by the end of October of same year.
Important Information
- The nominees shall be responsible for arranging visa, transportation, etc, and provide a copy of the itinerary before departure.
- The nominees must arrange courses and absence during the exchange period with affiliated departments/college before departure.
- Upon return from the exchange period, nominees should provide a report in accordance with the university regulation.

Stipend Details: -Living: the host university will provide JPY 270,000 per month. -Accommodation: the host university will provide suitable accommodation free of charge (including water and electricity fees). -Other: the host university will provide the following: research funding no more than JPY 30,000 per month (actual expenses); commuting fee (only to/from the Campus); lecture fee (if any) in accordance with the regulations of the host institution; overseas medical insurance expenses covered within the range of Kansai University’s partner insurance company. - 14 to 60 days each; total duration of visiting NTU faculty members should be no more than 60 days. -Visiting dates must be between May 1 and December 15, 2020. Stipend Details: -Living: the host university will provide JPY 5,000 per day. -Accommodation: the host university will arrange single accommodation, relevant expense to be paid by applicant. Kyoto University can only provide single (one-person) rooms for researchers, families are not allowed to live in the international house.
