The course fee is 75 euros for international students. Students will get 4 ECTS if they attend 80% of the course and pass the exam. During the semester, the Studienkolleg at KIT offers free German language courses for all students enrolled at KIT.
  2. Health insurance coverage is mandatory for your entire stay in Germany, with unlimited coverage. You can either obtain private health insurance in your home country before arriving in Karlsruhe or take out a German public health insurance before or after arrival. However, we strongly recommend choosing German public health insurance, as many private policies from non-EU countries may not be accepted. Without valid insurance, enrolment at the university is not possible.
  3. Students from partner universities pay a charge for the Studierendenwerk of about 109.50 € per semester. This includes reduced student prices at the university restaurant, transportation reductions, and accident insurance.
  4. Cost of Living
Accommodation Information
KIT reserves rooms in student residences for students from partner universities. Accommodation is guaranteed if students adhere to the application procedure and deadlines. Details are sent by email after admission to KIT.

The furnished single rooms cost between €250 and €350 per month and are rented for fixed lease periods: October to March (winter semester) and/or April to September (summer semester). Please note that these rental periods are non-negotiable, and no alternative move-in or move-out dates are available.

Please note that accommodation prices on the private market are significantly higher than those in student dorms, and there is also a risk of scams. For this reason, we highly recommend applying for a room in a student dorm through us.

For students attending the pre-semester German language course (starting mid-September in the winter semester/mid-March in the summer semester), we recommend reserving accommodation in youth hostels, hostels, or Airbnb for the two weeks before the rental period of guaranteed rooms in the student residences. This must be arranged privately, as KIT unfortunately cannot assist with finding housing on the private market.
Accommodation Application Notice
During the exchange period, accommodation will be fully managed by KIT Housing Office and will be allocated based on the application status of sister schools worldwide, with no guarantee of being assigned to the first-choice listings. Please pay special attention to the fact that, to avoid placing a burden on sister schools' administrative processes and to take into account the rights of other students, accommodation qualifications cannot be revoked or waived after the lease agreement is established.
