Registration
Students must register as a full-time student at NTU and are liable for tuition fees at NTU while overseas. Students do not have to pay tuition fees to the host university, but remain liable for miscellaneous, accommodation, living, insurance, transportation and other personal fees.
Academic Information
  1. The language requirements listed are the minimum standards. Applicants are advised to look into specific departments and courses to ensure they meet all prerequisites and additional language criteria. The host institution reserves the right to deny admission if no suitable departments or courses are available.
  2. The student exchange program between Maastricht University in the Netherlands and our university includes the following three faculties:It is NOT possible to take courses at different faculties during one block period (to avoid overlap in classes).
  3. School of Business and Economics, Exchange students applying to this faculty may only enroll in courses offered by SBE. Courses from other faculties are not available. Please be sure to carefully review the exchange student information and course catalog.

    • As an exchange student, you can only register for a maximum of two courses per period (max. 13 ECTS credits) with a minimum of one course per period (5 / 6.5 ECTS credits), and only one skills training per period (4 ECTS credits).
    • Applicants for the master’s program must also hold a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, or a related field.
  4. Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience, exchange students applying to this faculty may only enroll in courses offered by FPN. Dutch-taught courses in this faculty are not open to exchange students. Please be sure to carefully review the exchange student information.

    • There are about 10-15 study hours per week. These consist of lectures, tutorial groups, and practicals. Classes take place multiple days a week, and vary per week/period. In addition to classes, you should expect about 20 hours of independent learning per week.

Practical Information
  1. Dutch language course
    • The official language at SBE (and the rest of Maastricht University) is English, but you might want to learn some Dutch. Learning Dutch will make your life as a student in Maastricht a lot easier.
    • If you decide to take a language course this will not be mentioned on your SBE exchange transcript, as it is not taught at SBE but the Language Centre. However, you will receive a separate Proof of Participation from the Language Centre itself.

  1. Insurance
    1. Healthcare insurance
      • By law, everyone in the Netherlands, even if you are here for only one or two semesters, must have healthcare insurance for medical expenses. Which type of healthcare insurance you need depends on your situation. Please check your current insurance to see if it covers your stay in the Netherlands and to what extent.
    2. Liability insurance and household contents insurance
      • Make sure you are sufficiently insured for liability and household contents. More information can be found via MyMaastricht or Study in Holland.
  2. Cost of Living
Accommodation Information
We must strongly advise you to arrange this urgently because available student housing in Maastricht is very limited. We strongly advise you not to come to Maastricht if you have not found housing in or around the city before the start of the academic year. Should you come to Maastricht against our advice without having arranged housing, please know that UM cannot help you because UM itself does not offer student housing, and there are no online classes.
