- As an exchange student you will be able to enroll in courses at the Storrs campus of the following areas of study:
- Schools and Colleges of Agriculture & Natural Resources- Engineering
- Liberal Arts & Sciences
- Business (courses are restricted to Business majors only)
- Limited course availability: Fine Arts, Statistics and Psychology
- Areas of Study Not Available: School of Education (EDCI, EGEN, EPSY, EDLR, EKIN), School of Nursing (NURS), School of Pharmacy (PHRX, PHAR, PHRM), School of Law (LAW) and Military Science (MISI)

- Course Load:
- Minimum: 12 credits (undergraduate) 9 credits (graduate)
- Maximum: 17 credits (no more than 5 courses)
- Course Registration:
- Students are required to submit their course preferences as part of the online application process.
- Upper-division courses (3000 level and above) require evidence of pre-requisites.
- Online course registration is not available for exchange students.
- Medical Insurance: It is mandatory for all exchange students to have personal medical Insurance that meets all J-1 visa requirements.

On-campus housing is guaranteed for all exchange students that complete the online housing application by the due date.
We recommend that all exchange students live on campus in residence halls. On-campus living is an important part of American university life, and by living on campus, you become an active member of the UConn community and have access to all the social, recreational, and cultural events that take place.
All dorm rooms are equipped with a bed, a mattress, a desk and chair, and a closet. In small units, doubles are 154 sq. ft. (11×14). Elsewhere, double rooms range in size up to 180 sq. ft. Most undergraduate dormitory rooms share bathroom facilities with other residents on the floor. Refrigerators, microwaves and televisions are not provided in dorm rooms.
- Traditional Housing – Shared bedrooms with convenient access to dining halls and campus facilities. A campus meal plan is required.
- Suites – Shared bedrooms, often with shared living spaces, with convenient access to dining halls and campus facilities. A campus meal plan is required.
- Apartments – Independent-style housing that has shared bedrooms and living spaces (including full kitchens). You are NOT required to have a campus meal plan.
