  2. GPA should be higher than 3.38.
  3. TOEFL iBT 90 (Reading 22 Listening 22 Speaking 22 Writing 22 Do not accept Home Edition) or IELTS 6.5 (Listening 6.5 Reading 6.5 Writing 6.5 Speaking 6.5).
  4. Not available to students in the College of Engineering, College of Management.

Registration
Students must register as a full-time student at NTU and are liable for tuition fees at NTU while overseas. Students do not have to pay tuition fees to the host university, but remain liable for miscellaneous, accommodation, living, insurance, transportation and other personal fees.
Academic Information
  1. The language requirements listed are the minimum standards. Applicants are advised to look into specific departments and courses to ensure they meet all prerequisites and additional language criteria. The host institution reserves the right to deny admission if no suitable departments or courses are available.

  4. Provided that they meet the relevant academic background and course enrollment requirements, exchange students may take courses across different disciplines, and graduate students may enroll in undergraduate-level courses.
  5. The following departments or schools have high enrollment demand and limited space in classes. Consequently, students will need to have maximum flexibility in course choices from these departments.
    • Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, & Environmental Sciences and Policy-Biodiversity and Conservation
    • Communication
    • Computer Science (priority is given to students who are Computer Science majors at their home institution. Students cannot enroll for more than two, maybe 3 CS classes per semester)
    • Criminology & Criminal Justice
    • Economics (priority is given to students who are Economics majors at their home institution. Students cannot enroll for more than two, maybe 3 ECON classes per semester)
    • Government & Politics
    • Information Studies
    • Journalism
    • Neuroscience
    • Psychology
  6. In addition to restrictions you may encounter in the Limited Enrollment programs, exchange students do not have access to the following programs:
    • Business (only business majors from institutions that have a specific exchange agreement with the Smith School of Business may pre-register for business classes)
    • College Park Scholars
    • Engineering (only engineering majors from institutions that have a specific exchange agreement with the A. James Clark School of Engineering may take engineering classes)
    • Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program
    • Global Communities (BSGC)
    • Hinman CEOs
    • Honors College (only students from institutions that have a specific exchange agreement with the Honors College may take Honors courses)
    • Quest Honors Program
    • Any courses taught on the Shady Grove or DC campuses
  7. Estimated cost of living
  8. Undergraduate exchange students must take a minimum of 12 credits per semester, which is typically the equivalent of 4 courses.
  9. Students attending UMD as exchange students are required to purchase the UMD SHIP Insurance. Incoming exchange students will automatically be enrolled in the program and will pay via their UMD student billing account. The cost of SHIP insurance is approximately $650 USD per semester and the coverage dates align with the semester dates. Exchange students cannot waive SHIP insurance.
  10. Incoming students will be required to pay a student activity fee to UMD. This fee will be automatically charged to the student’s UMD account.

Accommodation Information

Housing is guaranteed. For more information, please refer to the website.

  • Undergraduate students should be able to secure housing as long as they complete the online housing application on the Department of Resident Life website.
    • Full-year students sign an academic year lease and may not move out of on-campus housing at the change of the semester.
    • Housing fees depend on the type of housing that is assigned.
    • Some on-campus accommodations do not have kitchen facilities. In these cases, students are required to purchase a dining plan and do not have the option of waiving out of an on-campus dining plan.
    • Students who are assigned to on-campus accommodations with a kitchen can opt out of a dining plan.
