To create a friendly living environment and enhance crowd management, the Ministry of the Interior's Immigration Agency has relaxed regulations regarding residency permits and extensions.

Starting from January 1, 2024, the following friendly measures are implemented:

 1. After foreigners obtain a residence permit (any kind of VISA) and enter the country, the period to apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) from the agency is extended from 15 days to 30 days. (Article 22, Paragraph 2 of the Immigration Act)

2. During the residency period, foreigners who change their residential address or service location can apply to the agency for a change of registration, with the deadline extended from 15 days to 30 days. (Article 31, Paragraph 6 of the Immigration Act)

 Starting from March 1, 2024, the following penalties are intensified:

 1. Citizens of Taiwan without household registration or foreigners who overstay their stay or residency will be fined from NT$10,000 to NT$50,000. (Article 74-1, Paragraph 2 of the Immigration Act)

 2. Foreigners who overstay their stay, residency, or engage in illegal employment will be prohibited from entry for a period of not less than 1 year and not more than 7 years. (Article 18 of the Immigration Act)
