  1. At least First-year Undergraduate student/First-year master’s student/First-year doctoral student. According to the year of study recorded in the Office of Academic Affairs system at the time of internal selection..
  2. TOEFL iBT 80 (Writing 17 Do not accept Home Edition) or IELTS 6.0 (Writing 6.0) or The General English Proficiency Test (High-Intermediate), C1 for studies in the English department.

  4. German at least B2(High-Intermediate) level.

Not available to students in the College of Medicine, College of Public Health, Department of Veterinary Medicine, College of Bio-Resources & Agriculture, Graduate Institute of Veterinary Medicine, College of Bio-Resources & Agriculture, Graduate Institute of Clinical Veterinary Science, College of Bio-Resources & Agriculture.

Academic Calendar
Registration
Students must register as a full-time student at NTU and are liable for tuition fees at NTU while overseas. Students do not have to pay tuition fees to the host university, but remain liable for miscellaneous, accommodation, living, insurance, transportation and other personal fees.
Academic Information
  1. The language requirements listed are the minimum standards. Applicants are advised to look into specific departments and courses to ensure they meet all prerequisites and additional language criteria. The host institution reserves the right to deny admission if no suitable departments or courses are available.

  4. NOT open to exchange students: Faculty of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine
  5. Courses taught in English at the host university are limited. Students who are proficient only in English must independently assess whether there are sufficient courses available for selection.
    • Most courses for bachelor students are taught in German. 
    • Most classes in English are at Master level. Bachelor exchange students are welcome to also sign up for Master courses (there may be some exceptions regarding Master seminars).
    • The language of instruction is mentioned in the course catalogue.
    • Students should have sufficient proficiency of German and/or English to be able to follow lectures and written exams (CEFR level B2; CEFR level C1 for courses at the English Department).
  6. For PhD students we have special requirements: PhD students are asked to find a professor at the University of Bern, who will act as their supervisor during the time of their stay in Bern. Only with this support, we can accept exchange students on PhD level.
  7. For exchange students, a credit load of 20-25 ECTS/semester is recommended.

Language Courses
Various free language workshops in German and Bernese German are offered during the introduction week. Further German courses are available during the semester on levels A1-C1. In addition, exchange students may also benefit from English courses (CEFR Level B1-C1). All German and English workshops as well as courses are free of charge. Accommodation Information
The dorm providers in Bern are not linked to the university, they are private providers. For this reason, we cannot guarantee housing, however, we send studentsan info sheet on all the available options in Bern (dorms, shared-flat platforms etc.). More information here.
